Works as part of a team to execute the assigned department’s processes to either prepare, cook, or package goods. Operates department-specific machinery and protocols in a safe and accurate manner to produce high quality product with minimal waste. Takes direction from the Department Lead/Production Supervisor, follows safety protocols, and contributes process improvement ideas.

The General Accounting Manager at Vermont Smoke & Cure will be responsible for managing the general accounting functions, including the general ledger and financial reporting. This individual will leverage their analytical and leadership skills to enhance business strategy and overall performance.  A successful candidate will play a key role in providing financial statements, analysis, guidance, and fostering financial acumen across the team.

Reports To: Commercial Business Lead
Manages: Accounts Payable, Receivable Clerk and Production Data Entry personnel

Essential Functions:

 

  • Financial reporting and analysis
    • Responsible for leading the month-end close process resulting in meaningful and accurate financial reporting
    • Recording and verifying month end entries and transactions to ensure accurate month-end general ledger and financial statements.
    • Reconciling the balance sheet & appropriate subsidiary accounts.
    • Summarizing the financial status by collecting information and preparing all necessary month-end financial statements & analysis.
    • Reviewing trade spend and managing the accrual.
    • Tracking KPIs and preparing financial reports.
    • Broker Commission Reporting.
    • Work with HR Business Partner to produce bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accuracy, and entering appropriate transactions into the financial system.
    • Find efficiencies in the current processes and procedures to allow more time for analysis.
    • Assist Johnsonville Headquarters with annual audit and tax filings as it relates to VSC Holdings information & coordination.
    • Develop financial projections, lead quarterly, semi-annual and annual budget processes, and build financial models to help drive business decisions.
    • Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and company policies, and perform other research and analysis as required.
  • Business partnering with the team to drive growth and profitability.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels of the organization to provide meaningful financial and business analysis that leads to actionable insights, recommendations, and contingencies to maximize the performance of the business.
    • Working with Production to ensure accurate product costing.
    • Working with Sales & Marketing to design customer and product P&Ls.
    • Producing the appropriate sales, invoices, and open order reporting and tracking.
    • Reviewing and analyzing financial statements and reports and understanding key business drivers.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and provide financial guidance for decision-making.
  • Leadership
    • Provide leadership and mentorship to the general accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 – 8 years of general accounting management and/or finance reporting experience required.
  • SAP and BPC knowledge a plus.
  • Previous experience in CPG manufacturing and cost accounting a plus.
  • Previous experience managing and developing a team.
